What is Melasma?Melasma (also called Chloasma or Mask of Pregnancy) is a common skin condition which causes a brownish-colored discoloration on the skin of the face. While the disorder doesn't cause other symptoms, women are often concerned with the cosmetic effects.
Melasma is often associated with the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. It is especially common in pregnant women, women who are taking oral contraceptives ("the pill"), and women taking hormone replacement therapy during menopause.

However, the most important thing you can do to prevent or reduce the appearance of Melasma is to avoid sun exposure to the face using sunscreen or shade. |
